John J. Johnson Honored with Jalen Rose Humanitarian Award

This summer, University of Michigan basketball standout John J. Johnson was named the recipient of the 2025 Jalen Rose Humanitarian Award, recognizing his outstanding commitment to community service and leadership beyond the court.
Johnson, a former Wolverine known for his drive and resilience, has carried those same qualities into his work off the hardwood. Today, he serves as President of Project Uplift Tampa, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to creating opportunities and resources for young people and families to thrive. His leadership has positioned Project Uplift as a beacon of empowerment and support, offering educational initiatives, mentorship, and community development programs.

“Receiving the Jalen Rose Humanitarian Award is an incredible honor,” Johnson shared. “Basketball gave me a platform, but giving back is what truly fulfills me. As president of Project Uplift Tampa, my mission is to create opportunities for young people and families to thrive.
